Today’s blinds & shades feature so many different options for raising and lowering your window covering but which one is the best? We’ve asked our expert interior design team to describe and review each of the options:
Cordlock – Typically found on wood and metal blinds, pull down on a string to raise/lower your blind and hold it in place by pulling that same string to the side to activate a lock. This system is easy-to-use and affordable but it is a bit unattractive as it features multiple long dangling strings.
Cordloop – Also known as EasyRise, this system features a continuous cordloop made from either metal beads or nylon. Pull the cordloop to quickly and easily raise/lower the shade. Cordloops are excellent for heavy shades but pose a significant strangulation safety risk.
Retractable Cord – Often called UltraGlide, pull a cord to raise/lower your shade and any slack that is generated in the process will automatically retract back into the shade’s headrail. This system looks great and improves safety as dangling cords are eliminated but it is notoriously hard-to-use. To make sure you’re comfortable with it, test it out on large working demos in our gorgeous new Rockville showroom.
Manual Cordless – Our designer’s favorite! Manual cordless systems allow you to take hold of the bottom of a shade and push it up or pull it down. Frequently called LiteRise, this system is easy-to-use and the elimination of dangling cords improves aesthetics and safety.
Motorized – Nearly every type of window covering can be motorized. Our motorized window covering experts can teach you about the differences between battery-powered and hardwired systems. Although motorization is the most expensive lift system, it is the most user-friendly, attractive, safe and exciting. When shopping for blinds and shades, Rockville Interiors will introduce you to one of our interior designer to guide you through all the options. They’ll help you choose beautiful window fashions and guide you through all customizable options such as lift systems to tailor your window coverings perfectly to your needs.
