1. Color – The seasons, with all their weather changes, can evoke emotion. In the winter, you may crave darker, fuller hues. In Spring, you may long for color choices based on the feeling of spring. Which colors make you think about Spring – pastels, vibrant and rich colors? Search for beautiful fabrics in those colors that inspire you to think of warmer weather and sunshine. You can also gain inspiration from resources like Pantone’s Fashion Color Report Spring 2017 and the home design magazines that are hitting newsstands or the next several weeks featuring new looks for Spring!
2. Prints- Maybe you love florals in bold colors or whimsical fabrics whose patterns boast a story that is weaved into each thread. Maybe paisley will prove an exciting choice for reupholstering your armchair. Use playful prints in your Spring interior that tell your guests you are enjoying the season, and are anticipating the upcoming Summer season.
3. Texture – Find fabrics and home accessories that complement the fabrics you have chosen, and weave them into your room just as you would another accent color. For example, will that pop of color in your handcrafted bedding be more resonant in silk or sateen? Maybe. But it will certainly be more pleasing to the touch.
4. Usage – Are you reupholstering an outdoor patio set or an indoor living room? Do you have young children who will use the room regularly? In cases like these, choice of fabric does matter.
